Today I had a Valentine’s Day mini session with Mia. She did two outfit changes. She was a very well-behaved little girl and followed all of the poses accordingly. She was very confident and loves being in the spotlight.
I love working with kids because they are fearless and they aren’t so worried about their looks as adults tend to be. She was a natural. I could see this kid doing catalog modeling for a brand. She has the sweetest smile and like any normal kid; knees covered in Band-Aids.
I’m reminded very much about when I was eight years old and that having scrapes on my knees meant you had a fun and active childhood. I did some retouching on her knees a bit because she did have some severe boo-boos. I wanted to clean it up a bit, but not entirely. She’s a very daring kid and I found out she likes to skateboard. Years from now when Mia is an adult, I really believe that she will look back at these photos and treasure them so much more. She’ll remember this carefree chapter in her life. I feel like this truly captured the true essence of what it is to be 8. Brought back so many memories for me as I was doing the shoot. Being a kid was a magical and enchanting time.
I wasn’t sure, but something told me that mommy needed to be in the photos too. It was funny tht she thought that she was going to get away without taking a few photos. She didn’t feel like she was ready to get her picture taken, but I told her not to worry and to just trust the process. I always feel like it’s important to document moments like this. These photos I guarantee will be more appreciated as Mia gets older. I always encourage parents to get in the photo.
Even though mom wasn’t thrilled about the idea, she cooperated, and the results came out very nicely. These are a few of my favorites from today. You’re not getting any younger, just take the photo! You may watch the time lapse video on TikTok.
