Sunrise to Sunflowers: A Perfect Day in South Florida

There’s something truly special about waking up early. It’s in those quiet moments that you get to witness the world slowly come alive—starting with a beautiful sunrise, a warm cup of coffee in hand, and the gentle magic of the sun waking up South Florida and all its wildlife. This morning at Fort Lauderdale Beach was just that. Even though the sky looked a little gloomy at first, the sun still made her appearance—soft, glowing, and full of promise. Seagulls and pelicans danced across the sky, diving into the ocean for their breakfast. Honestly, they might just be the ultimate fishing experts. After soaking in the morning, I made my way to Grandpa’s Bakery & Restaurant. If you’re an early riser, this is the spot—they open at 6:30 AM and serve some of the freshest, most delicious bagels you’ll ever have. I highly recommend the everything egg bagel. It’s soft, fresh, and so satisfying… trust me, you’ll thank me later. Back at home, I spent some time tending to the garden, which always grounds me. A busy woodpecker caught my eye, hard at work building its home, while a whole little clan of ibis birds kept me company in the backyard. It’s moments like these that remind me how connected we are to nature, even in our own space. Later, I headed up to Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market, and wow—what a treat. Endless sunflower fields, golden and glowing, made for the most beautiful photo opportunities. Supporting local farmers always feels good, and learning more about the land made the experience even more meaningful. The tractor ride was definitely a highlight—we explored all 80 acres, spotted pink spoonbill birds, and even saw an alligator! And the fresh sugar cane juice? Absolutely unforgettable. After a full countryside adventure, I stopped at one of my go-to favorites, La Bamba Mexican & Spanish Restaurant, for their incredible fajitas. I always go for the steak fajitas, add extra sides (because why not?), and it hits every single time. So flavorful, so satisfying. A nap was definitely earned after that—especially with a 7:09 AM sunrise kind of start. And let me tell you… it was the kind of nap that just resets your whole soul. To end the day, I had dinner with my family at Sicilian Oven—one of my favorite Italian spots. The Mona Lisa pizza (well done!) is a must, along with their fire oven wings—so flavorful and perfectly cooked. If you’re a pasta lover, the pistachio pasta and penne alla vodka are both amazing. I always pair it with a Sicilian salad (add gorgonzola!) and finish with their chocolate torte… a winner every single time. There’s something so beautiful about a day filled with simple pleasures—sunrise, nature, good food, and time with family. Days like this remind me how much inspiration is all around us… you just have to pause and take it in. ✨
