One of the things I love most about photography is the opportunity to work with animals. There’s something really special about capturing their expressions, energy, and personalities through the lens. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of pet photography—and I have to say, it’s been incredibly rewarding. Each session is different, and every animal brings their own charm to the shoot.
Most recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a golden doodle named Boaz. He was such a sweet and well-mannered pup, and our session together turned out to be one of my favorites so far. The shoot took place on a beautiful Saturday morning—sunny, mild, and just perfect for outdoor photography.
Boaz’s owner, Linda, had reached out to me because she wanted some professional photos of her fur baby in her garden. When I arrived, I was immediately struck by how stunning her backyard was. It was full of vibrant plants, blooming flowers, and cozy little corners that made for a beautiful and natural backdrop. It’s always fun to incorporate a setting that’s meaningful to the client, and you could tell that this garden was a space Linda had poured a lot of love into—just like she has with Boaz.
Before I even lifted my camera, I spent a few minutes getting to know Boaz. I never know quite what to expect when I meet a new pet, but that’s part of the fun. Some are shy, some are playful, some are bursting with energy—but Boaz was calm, curious, and ready to be the star of the show. One of the most important things I’ve learned from doing pet sessions is how crucial it is to talk with the client beforehand and get a good sense of what they’re hoping for. Having that clear communication helps everything go more smoothly, and it also ensures I can deliver images they’ll truly love.
As we moved through different areas of the garden, Linda gave Boaz commands and helped guide him into different poses. Watching their interaction was honestly one of my favorite parts of the whole experience. You could see the strong bond they share, and it added so much warmth and authenticity to the photos. Boaz was a natural in front of the camera—whether he was sitting quietly among the flowers or bounding down the garden path, he looked like a total pro.
There were so many beautiful moments during the shoot—close-ups of Boaz’s expressive eyes, wide shots that captured him in the lush surroundings, and candid images of him simply enjoying the morning sunshine. I left that day feeling so grateful to do what I do.
Here are some of my favorite images from the session. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed capturing them!
