Hidden Gems for Graduation & Prom Photos in South Florida
Graduation and prom season is officially here, and one thing I absolutely love about this time of year is helping seniors celebrate such an important milestone in their lives. As the owner of Bee Fly Media, I’ve always had a huge love for studio photography. There’s just something timeless and elegant about a controlled studio setting. But every now and then, I get a client who wants to head outdoors and create something a little more adventurous — and honestly, South Florida has some truly incredible hidden gems for that.
Over the years, I’ve scouted some of my favorite locations for graduation and prom photography sessions, and today I wanted to share a few of them with you guys. Whether you’re dreaming of beachy sunrise portraits, golden hour nature shots, or a peaceful hidden garden vibe, there’s something magical waiting for you right here in South Florida.
Sunrise Magic at Hillsboro Beach & A1A
If you love the beach and are truly dedicated to getting breathtaking photos, one of my favorite locations is the beach off Hillsboro Boulevard and A1A near the pier. The lighting here during sunrise is absolutely unreal. Soft pastel skies, golden reflections on the water, and the peacefulness of the early morning make this spot feel cinematic.
But let me warn you now — these photos are not for the weak. You have to be willing to wake up very early, but trust me when I say the results are worth every second of lost sleep. The pier adds such a beautiful backdrop, and the beach is usually calm and quiet in the morning, which gives us the perfect opportunity to capture stunning portraits without heavy crowds.
Golden Hour at Sawgrass Trailhead
Another one of my favorite hidden gems is the Sawgrass Trailhead at Atlantic Boulevard. If sunrise sounds a little too ambitious for you, this is the perfect place to catch those dreamy sunset photos instead.
This location has some of the most beautiful Everglades views, especially during Golden Hour. The open skies, glowing light, and natural scenery create such a unique South Florida atmosphere. I’ve spent a lot of time scouting this spot because there are so many amazing photo opportunities throughout the trail.
Now, funny story — I actually crashed my drone into the Everglades here once. So yes, this place keeps me humble.
One thing I always tell clients, though: once the sun starts going down, the mosquitos mean business. It’s best to wrap up the session right as the sun is setting unless you want to become an all-you-can-eat buffet.
A Zen Escape at Bonaventure Resort and Spa
One location that completely surprised me with how beautiful it was for photos is Bonaventure Resort & Spa in Weston.
This place has such a peaceful, Zen-like atmosphere. I absolutely love the bamboo gardens, the rock landscapes, and the adorable bridge on the property. There’s even a swan swimming around sometimes, which honestly makes the whole place feel straight out of a movie scene.
If you’re looking for a clean, elegant, and calm aesthetic for your graduation or prom portraits, this location is definitely worth considering.
Secret Woods Nature Center — A Hidden Fairytale
One of my favorite hidden gems in Davie is Secret Woods Nature Center near State Road 84.
This park is such a dream for nature lovers. Everywhere you look, there are beautiful trees, wooden pathways, greenery, and little pockets of magical light peeking through the forest. One of the reasons I love this place so much is because of all the ladybugs I’ve seen there over the years. I’ve always believed ladybugs bring luck and good fortune — especially if one lands on you during your session.
The pollinator path is another gorgeous feature of this park and gives us so many opportunities for colorful and unique portraits. If you want a peaceful, earthy, whimsical vibe for your photos, this location is definitely one of my top recommendations.
Surprisingly Beautiful: Parkland Town Center Plaza
Believe it or not, one of my favorite places to shoot is actually the Parkland Town Center plaza.
This spot is so underrated. The landscaping is beautiful, and I especially love the greenery and plants growing along the walls throughout the plaza. It creates such a clean and modern backdrop while still feeling natural and vibrant.
Another reason I recommend this location is because it’s very easy to walk around and is handicap accessible, making it a great option for clients who may not want to do a lot of walking during their session. Sometimes the simplest locations end up creating the most beautiful images.
Sunset Views at Three Friends Park
Last but definitely not least, I want to recommend Three Friends Park in Coral Springs.
This park has such a peaceful atmosphere, and if you’re willing to make the little climb to the top of the hill, you’ll be rewarded with some seriously spectacular views. Around sunset, the lighting here becomes absolutely stunning.
This location gives such a calm and cinematic vibe, and it’s perfect if you want your graduation photos to feel warm, natural, and relaxed.
